Emergency Medical Assistance

Resources for students who need medical assistance after hours are located on the Student Health Center's Community Resources page. 

If a student is too sick to make necessary arrangements or needs physical assistance, an officer will respond to the student's location and request an ambulance if warranted.

 

Medical Transportation Program

The Medical Transportation Program - hosted by the Center for Race, Equity, and Identity, Office of Title IX, Student Wellness, and Student Counseling Center - provides free transportation to medical appointments through Uber.

Requirements to use this program:  

• Must be used for a non-emergency medical or mental health concern. Emergencies should be assessed through the Office of Campus Safety and relevant processes must be followed.   
• Must be for physical or mental health appointments and may NOT to be used for transportation for other purposes. Appointments include: 
  • Sexual assault forensic appointments 
  • Urgent and routine mental health appointments including psychiatry 
  • Specialist appointments (including psychological testing, dental care, ophthalmology, rehabilitation services, etc) 
  • Gender-affirming care appointments  
  • Reproductive health  
• Students must be living in the state of Maryland.
• Graduate students may only access this program from Title-IX related appointments. 

Limitations & Out of Scope of Program   

• Students may access this service twice per month for routine/scheduled appointments.
• Unlimited access for emergency room and urgent care visits that do not require EMS response or transportation. 
• Note: Students will not be turned away from use for transportation to the emergency room or urgent care if they have already used this service twice in one month for routine care. 
• This program is not accessible in the event of a life-threatening situation, injury, or illness.  
• Transportation is only to be used for medical/clinical care.

Inappropriate Use

Students found to inappropriately utilize this resource for rides that are not for medical reasons will be:

• charged the cost of the ride to their Student Account
• removed from accessing the Program for one year  
• subject to disciplinary processes through Student Education and Accountability 

Campus Safety officers, as well as other staff and faculty members, are not able to transport students to or from any medical facility.

Campus Safety is unable to provide transportation to a pharmacy for students to have prescriptions filled. A student should request that his/her doctor call in prescriptions to a pharmacy that offers a delivery service or that is near campus.
