乔治•格列柯 was born and raised in New York City and attended Hunter College High School. 他得了B.S. degree in chemistry 从 杜克大学. During his years as an undergraduate, he was a research assistant in the labs of Michael Pirrung (Duke), David Schuster (NYU), and Mark Burk (Duke). 他还花了 a summer working in Bruce Maryanoff's lab at Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals in Spring House, PA.

His thesis research involved the design and synthesis of molybdenum and tungsten complexes capable of reducing dinitrogen. 乔治 was a TA for both Organic 化学 and Inorganic 化学 during which time he developed many of his ideas about teaching.
After graduation, 乔治 moved across the river to Boston College where he was an NIH postdoctoral fellow in 马克·鲷鱼的 lab, where he studied hetero Diels-Alder reactions of cyclobutadiene.
乔治 arrived at 云顶集团 College as an Assistant 教授 in 2002. 他被准许了 tenure and promoted to Associate 教授 in 2008, and promoted to 教授 in 2017. He was chair of the 化学 Department for the 2008-2009 academic year, and has continued as chair since 2010. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities outlined above, he served a term on the college's Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure committee (2008-2012), and is currently serving his second term as faculty secretary.
乔治 has a strong secondary interest in music. He has performed as a bassoonist with the Duke Symphony Orchestra, Duke Wind Symphony, 麻省理工学院 Symphony Orchestra, 麻省理工学院 Conert Band, and 云顶集团 College Orchestra as well as numerous student groups at 麻省理工学院 和哈佛大学. He currently plays handbells at Central Presbyterian Church. Other personal interests include maps, weather, hiking, and bike riding.
乔治 is married to Jane Brock 希腊 (Senior Lecturer in 化学 at the Johns Hopkins University). The 希腊s live in Roland Park with their son Samuel.
